How should I ask customers for Google reviews?
Happy customers often forget to leave a review. A short, timed ask is normal business practice. It does not have to sound like a sales script.
When to ask
Ask when the job is done and the customer is clearly satisfied: after the repair is paid, after dinner when the check drops, or in a follow-up text the same day. Do not ask during a complaint or before the work is finished.
What to say
Keep it short. Something like:
"If we did a good job, a Google review helps other people in town find us. Here is the link whenever you have a minute."
Then send the direct Google review link (from your Business Profile), not a scavenger hunt through search.
Rules that matter
- Do not offer money or discounts for reviews. That violates Google's policies and looks bad if discovered.
- Do not filter by only asking five-star fans in a way that hides negative feedback. Ask people who had a real job completed.
- Reply to new reviews, including the critical ones. A calm reply shows you still own the relationship.
Make it easy for staff
Save the review link on a phone shortcut, QR code at the counter, or invoice footer. If the link takes six taps to find, nobody will send it.
